THE MERRY MERRIMAN
A 1940s kitchen given new life; preserving the charm, updating the function. We retained original character: paneling, classic farmhouse sink, and the warm patina of vintage cabinetry. Layout constraints were respected, but circulation was improved by reconfiguring the work triangle and adding discreet built-in storage. Modern materials and appliances were introduced with restraint: matte-finish appliances, granite counters that echo period stone, and soft, period-appropriate hardware. Lighting layers—recessed task lights, under-counter , and a signature sconce bring the space into the present while highlighting original details. The palette blends muted historic hues with fresh neutrals to balance nostalgia and timelessness. The result is a kitchen that feels authentically 1940s in spirit but performs for today's life: efficient, comfortable, and quietly modern.
